Enochia w Praktyce
Moje wprowadzenie do sztuki Gebofal miało miejsce w Yule. Kowen, do którego należałem świętował wiccański krąg a potem ucztował w tym kręgu. Arcykapłan otworzył wielką magiczną księgę i zaczął czytać inwokacje w języku Aniołów, które są esencją Magii Enochiańskiej.
Podczas gdy jego słowa wibrowały w kręgu wypełnionym światłem świec, zaczęły się pojawiać efekty niesamowitej magii, to było jakby moja psyche zakrzywiła się zarówno w czasie, jak i przestrzeni. Wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne światy wydawały się łączyć ze sobą i wtedy świeca otworzyła się jak brama. Doszukując się sensu w tych doświadczeniach
Doświadczenia te i wiele im podobnych pozwoliły mi zrozumieć, że życie nie jest tym, czym się wydaje. Posiadłem doświadczenia różnych poziomów istnienia, zarówno wewnątrz, jak i na zewnątrz siebie. Wiele razy doświadczyłem, jak wewnętrzna i zewnętrzna rzeczywistość mogą się połączyć i ukazać nowe poziomy świadomości, które uważam za zupełnie normalne i wspaniałe. Z drugiej strony możemy zbyt mocno opierać się na tradycji Okultyzmu i bez zaprzężenia naszych umysłów, przyjąć po prostu za dużo.
Wierzę, że powinniśmy wziąć pod uwagę perspektywę i naukę okultystyczną. Nie powinniśmy także bać się użyć teologii. psychologii, współczesnej neuro-nauki, teorii kulturowych i społecznych i czegokolwiek innego co pomoże nam zrozumieć te nadzwyczajne doświadczenia. Powinniśmy także wykorzystać nasz zdrowy rozsądek i być może, co najważniejsze, powinniśmy być gotowi zaakceptować, że tak naprawdę nie rozumiemy tych doświadczeń. Chęć przyznania się, że mamy tylko częściowe zrozumienie Aniołów, czymkolwiek one są, kładzie fundament pod rozwój lepszego zrozumienia w przyszłości. Jedną z podstawowych cech religii misteryjnych i prawdziwych systemów inicjacyjnych jest to, że nie uczą prawd. Zamiast tego osoby inicjowane uczą się, jak wykształcić sobie swoje własne wizje i zrozumienie. Inicjowani akceptują fakt, że każdy punt widzenia jest ograniczony; i że w miarę gdy rozszerzamy naszą świadomość nasze zrozumienie się zmienia. Świątynia Płomienia i Świątynia Feniksa
Ze względu na pogłębiające się zainteresowanie Enochiańskim systemem magii wśród inicjowanych wiccan, postanowiłem podzielić się pewnymi materiałami, które pomogą wiccanom rozpocząć poznawanie tego niezwykłego systemu. Świątynia Feniksa dostarczy instrukcji do praktykowania Magii Enochiańskiej, psychologicznych narzędzi pomocnych w radzeniu sobie z doświadczeniami, jakie są następstwem praktyki Sztuki Enochiańskiej, oraz możliwość nauki kilku medytacyjnych praktyk, uczonych poprzednio w Świątyni Płomienia.
Jest to pierwsza faza otwierania Zakonu, który do tej pory był dostępny tylko dla niewielkiej ilości uważnie wybieranych osób. Enochian Magic, the holy art of Gebofal

Between 1582 and 1589 John Dee and Edward Kelly received visions from beings describing themselves as Angels. These beings gave to Dee and Kelly a magical system, which is known to many today as the Enochia. The system has had extraordinary influence. It has been at the heart of Western Magical practice for over 400 years. The great magical orders have enshrined the Enochia, many being founded upon its practice. The system teaches a language of creation and provides a set of invocations opening 49 gates between human consciousness and the Divine fire at the centre of all creation.
Dee recorded the visions of his seer Edward Kelly, in spiritual diaries, which survive in the British Museum manuscripts collection, where I was fortunate to study for a number of years. The Visions Dee recorded describes a system of knowledge, power and communion; opening 49 gates between human consciousness and the Divine fire of creation. The knowledge given to Dee by the Angels was described by them, as the language of creation, spoken by Adam in the Garden of Eden before the Fall.
The name Enochia derives from the diary account. The Angels describe how the knowledge they provided to Dee had previously been given by God to the Patriarch Enoch and that Enoch, with God’s permission, had shared this knowledge with human kind. The Angels described how the Kings of the Earth became proud and arrogant and misused the power given to them. The Angels taught how:
…the Lord was vexed, and he sent in amongst them an hundred and fifty lions, and spirits of wickedness, error, and deceit: and they appeared unto them: …and they began to counterfeit the doings of God and his power, for they had power given them to do so, so that the memory of Enoch washed away…so hath the devil delivered unto the wicked the signs and tokens of his error and hatred towards god: whereby they in using them, might consent with their fall: and so become partakers with them of their reward, which is eternal damnation…(A True and Faithfull Relation, Antonine Publishing, 1974, p174)
Dee was taught that God sent spirits of wickedness, perhaps fallen Angels, into the world to deceive those abusing the Enochian knowledge. Dee was taught that other traditions of magic were counterfeits of the true Enochian wisdom that these falsehoods ‘washed away’ the true Enochian art. The magic of opening the 49 gates between God and humankind is called in the Angelic language, ‘The Holy Art Gebofal’, and Dee is told by the Angels:“Now hath it pleased god to deliver this doctrine again out of darknesse” (A True and Faithfull Relation, Antonine Publishing, 1974, p174).
Enochia in Practice
My introduction to the Art Gebofal took place at Yule. The coven to which I belonged had celebrated a Wiccan circle and was feasting in circle. Some guests had already left, while the rest remained in the darkness and candlelight of the circle. An altar dressed with candles, statues of the Moon Goddess and Horned God, was set up at the edge of the circle. By candlelight you could see the eight tools of the Witches Art. A beautiful engraved skrying mirror was set up in the centre of the circle and I was asked to kneel in front of it. A candle in a serpent candlestick burned close by the mirror. The High Priest opened a large magical book and began to read invocations in the Angelic language, the essence of Enochian magic.
As his words vibrated in the candlelight of the circle, an extraordinary magic began to take effect, it was as though my psyche warped in both time and space. The inner and outer worlds seemed to blend together and then the candle opened like a gateway. The normal candle flame opened, it expanded physically, witnessed by everybody in the circle; the flame, which had been an ordinary candle flame was now over a foot high. It was no longer ordinary fire, it was light and radiance, and as I looked into that light a force reached out to me, and put its mark upon me, my consciousness melded with the flame and I was shown the extraordinary reality of the true Enochia. I knew that in some way I was one with that force, that I always have been, and always will be. Twenty five years later I can still see that light as clearly as I did that day. It remains, burning within me, a fundamental guiding light in my life. Thereafter, I studied and worked with the Enochia for many years. My work with the Enochia led to the founding of the Temple of Flame, which exists to this day as an Order dedicated to the practice of the Enochian Arts.
Making sense of these experiences
These experiences and many like them make it clear to me that life is not all it appears. I have experiences of different levels of being, existing within myself and appearing outside myself. I have experienced many times how the inner and outer reality can merge and reveal new levels of consciousness, which I think of as quite normal and very wonderful. Making sense of these experiences is always a fascinating process and I think that very often this is where many people get themselves into trouble. We can take the sceptics path and reduce such experiences to psychological process. This is not difficult to do, there are plenty of possible psychological explanations, some of which are quite useful, but all of which are limited. On the other hand we can rely too much on Occult tradition and assume, without engaging our brains, and assume too much.
I believe we should take account of the Occult perspective and teaching. We should also not be afraid to use, Theology, psychology, modern neuroscience, cultural and social theory and anything else that might help us to make sense of these most remarkable experiences. We should also use common sense, and perhaps most importantly be willing to accept that we do not really understand these experiences. A willingness to admit we only have a partial understanding of Angels, whatever they are, lays the foundation for developing a better understanding in the future. One of the essential characteristics of mystery religions and true initiatory systems is that they do not teach truths. Instead initiates are taught how to develop their own vision and understanding. Initiates accept that any point of view is limited; and that as we expand consciousness our understanding changes. From an initiate’s point of view there can be many different understandings of Angels.
Temple of Flame and the Phoenix Temple
Due to an increasing interest shown by Wiccan initiates in the Enochian system of magic I have decided to make available certain materials, which will assist Wiccans to begin exploring this extraordinary system. I lead The Temple of Flame, established to work with the mysteries of Enochian magic. This in an initiatory order with its own specific requirements. However, in response to the recent requests for training I have founded a daughter Temple, called The Phoenix Temple, which will make some training materials available. This is an open temple, which accepts Wiccan initiates of good standing and is training its first thirty practitioners. The Phoenix Temple will provide instruction in Enochian Magic. It will provide psychological tools, to help deal with the experiences generated by the practice of Enochian Arts. The Phoenix Temple will also provide training in some of the meditative skills taught in The Temple of Flame.
This is a first stage in opening up an Order that has been available only to a few carefully chosen initiates. I would like to start with people who have an initiatory background and proven experience of working in a Wiccan temple, which I believe is one of best foundations for starting Enochia.
